Nalgene - From Lab to Land

Nalgene - From Lab to Land

Shout out to Nalgene for manufacturing their BPA free water bottles in the USA! Nalgene's primary factory is in Rochester, NY. The plastic for their water bottles was originally developed for laboratory use, including bottles, test tubes and jars. They became popular among backpackers in the 80s and 90s who purchased Nalgene products through laboratory-equipment suppliers and used them for storing consumables. Company lore claims that Nalgene president, Marsh Hyman, was surprised to discover that his son's Boy Scout troop was using Nalgene lab containers when camping. Since then, the company has re-packaged and marketed items for consumer sales through their line of Nalgene Outdoor Products. Nalgene's laboratory pedigree is still represented in the bottle volume markings in hundreds of milliliters. I always find it fascinating to read the stories behind products and brands that manufacture in the US.

I took this picture at Hidden Falls Regional Park in Auburn, CA. The recent rainfall has turned the hills green and replenished a lot of the reservoirs, which is very welcome here in California. I hope you think of Nalgene the next time you're shopping for a water bottle.

Nalgene is not sold on Founder Goods- we're just big fans of USA made products!
